I’m 19 and absolutely obsessed with golf. It seems like the perfect life for me would be doing nothing but playing golf all day long and getting better. I want to devote my life to golf and make a living on the pga tour someday.

I’m athletic and I am really good at handling pressure. I also have a lot of free time on my hands and great golf practice opportunities.

Now here are some brutal facts:

- I’ve been playing since I was 10, however I’ve only been playing a little more intensely for the last 3 years.

- I’m a 4 handicap, never had a lesson in my life.

- My swing is shit, but I can bomb it 350+ yards (no joke).

- My short game is average.

I believe I know how good the guys on the PGA tour really are and that the comparison between a tour pro and an amateur scratch player is like a scratch player and a 28 hcp hacker.

However it seems in golf that you get out of it what you put into it. It’s basically finding out what works for you and then repeating it until your hands fall off.

For that I’ll need a swing coach though.

So my question is if I would devote the next 3+ years doing nothing, but practicing golf 10 hours a day, everyday. Would I have a realistic chance to make it on tour? Is it possible to get to a tour pro level by sheer determination and practice or are the tour pros just naturally gifted?

Hello, I am very interested in golf right now. I played the wii and I got a perfect score on the approach club and the iron. However I only got about 17 out of 20 attempts nearly perfect for the driver club. This has gotten me very excited and I think I may have some talent hopefully. How do I develop rather good knowledge of golf before I go to a golf course? Should I read a book? I also think I have some used golf clubs but I don’t know exactly. I read some random articles on the web and they really did not help me. Is there like a computer program I could use? Is there even something I could use to practice at home without going to a golf course? Would it analyze my swing? Thank You

By the way, if you have any other ideas or recommendations for me since I am only a complete beginner, that would be greatly appreciated.
How would I practice?

Yesterday the kids were playing outside and one ended up swinging the golf club and caught the other in the forehead. So we took him to the hospital and he had 3 stiches put in and is fine-Thankfully! Since it was step siblings the dad had to take him back to his mom and now he is mad at me because he had to take him to his mom injured. Now I feel kind of upset and don’t know how to feel, because it was an accident and my daughter feels terrible. In my opinion life happens and it is never going to be picture perfect to deal with kids, an ex, and issues that arise. Children do get hurt from time to time. So what should I tell him because he seems more concerened with his ex and her feelings than ours?! Confused. Blended families are hard sometimes:(

The Tiger haters continue to say that Tiger’s days of dominating golf are over, and that he’ll never be the same again. When people WANT something to happen, they tend to believe that it WILL happen.

Why do they think that Tiger will never be himself again? Yeah, he hasn’t been great this year, but he’s coming back from an extended absence. So far, through 1 and a half rounds of the US OPEN, he looks very good, his swing is nearly perfect, all his drives are right down the fairway, and he’s hit some really nice shots onto the green, and his putting is good.

Wait a few months, and I bet you he will at least 2 tournaments by then.

So why do the haters insist that he will never be himself again?

In 2 days with a driver I am hitting 315+yards straight at the driving range. Where to go from here. Advice?
I picked up a golf club a month ago and I couldnt hit it more than 120 yards and it never went straight. I saw a 12 year old girl hit the ball 150 and straight and I became obsessed. 1 month later, going to the driving range 4 times a week and hearing tons and tons of different tips and style suggesetions about my swing, I decided I would buy a driver for fun. 2 days ago I bought a Callaway FT5 with a 10degree loft and a stiff fukimara shaft. After 2 days of practicing and about 300 balls, I can hit it 315+ and straight every time with taking a full backswing and not even a full follow through. I did it about 60 swings in a row last night, even with a sore chest muscle. The club house manager told me the best players in the world on the PGA Tour using custom clubs and much better balls that add distance, can not consistently hit the ball 315+. Even Tiger Woods, the best averages slightly under 300. I have never hit a 3 or 5 wood and I picked up a 3 iron after hitting the driver last night, took 1 swing and hit it 260 and straight. ONCE AGAIN, ive only practiced for 1 month now and never with a driver until saturday afternoon. IS MY NATURAL TALENT SO INSANE THAT I SHOULD DEDICATE MYSELF TO LEARNING THE GAME AND TRYING TO MAKE THE PGA TOUR, OR CAN A LOT OF AMATEURS DO WHAT I CAN? KEEP IN MIND I DONT HAVE CUSTOM CLUBS AND HAVE NEVER HAD 1 PROFESSIONAL LESSON OR USED REGULAR GOLF BALLS THAT PROVIDE LONGER DISTANCES. sorry for making that so long…yahoo answers is the best. —Justin
22 minutes ago – 4 days left to answer.
Additional Details
MY POINT IS I DONT KNOW IF IM USING THE RIGHT DEGREE OF DRIVER , I.E. 8.5,9,9.5,10 ETC,,IVE ONLY BEEN HITTING IT FOR 2 DAYS, IVE NEVER PIKED UP A DRIVER BEFORE, IM USING CRAPPY YELLOW PRACTICE RANGE BALLS AND IM HITTING IT CONSISTENTLY FURTHER THAN THE TOP 50 PLAYERS ON THE PGA TOUR…AND I WANT TO HIT IT EVEN FURTHER..OBVIOUSLY MY SWING ISNT PERFECT AT ALL AFTER 2 DAYS WITH A CLUB AND NO PROFESSIONAL INSTRUCTION, SO I HAVE A TON OF ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT….I WANT TO HEAR FROM PEOPLE THAT HAVE BEEN PLAYING FOR 5+ YEARS ON WHAT TO DO NEXT…..FOR THE RECORD, BEFORE I BOUGHT A DRIVER ON SATURDAY I PLAYED MY FIRST 9 HOLES WITHOUT ANY WOODS OR DRIVER OR USING ANY CLUB LONGER THAN AN 8 IRON AND I SHOT A 58, MAINLY BECUASE I HAD NEVER PUTTED BEFORE AND 3-4 PUTTED MY PAR 3′S WHEN I WAS ON THE GREEN IN 1 OR 2…..THANKS AGAIN

I just started golfing a couple weeks ago and took a few lessons. Like most beginners, I occasionally have a mean slice. I’ve also been using my dads clubs that are probably dated back to the mid 80′s.

I know that if I purchase newer clubs, it should help improve distance and (depending on my swing) accuracy.

I hear people telling me to purchase “game improvement clubs” that are “forgiving”, but I kind of feel like I would be cheating myself out of actually learning to hit the ball. Golf is not necessarily something you pick up on the first day unless you are a freak of nature. People have been working on their swing for decades.

I feel like if I purchase “game improvement clubs” and get really good with them, that when it comes time to purchase tour type clubs that aren’t so forgiving, my shot would be horrible because I let the clubs correct my swing rather than let ME correct my swing.

I would actually want someone to convince me otherwise because I hate playing with these old clubs…

Should I still invest in game improvement clubs or should I perfect my swing first.

I know that new Nintendo ds’s go for $130, but was wondering how much this one would go for. It comes with:

Silver First gen Nintendo ds, with some sort of explosion skin on it, it is in basically perfect condition except for a few small scratches, can’t even see them with the skin on
Large silver Intec Case
Swap and carry Nintendo Ds case
Nintendogs
Brain Age
True swing golf
Metroid Demo
Possibly Animal Crossing if he can find it
About 5 GBA games
Car and regular charger

I think that is it. Thanks guys.

I’m a 14 year old girl, 5’3-5’4 ish. Right now I have a very old driver and I’m in desperate need of a new one. I went to the golf shop a few days ago and was successfully failing at finding a driver for me. I was thinking about a senior flex because it would help me with my club head speed but the senior flex was too long and if I cut it down, it would defeat the purpose of a senior flex! So, I tried the new king cobra (pretty much because it was on sale…. like half price haha) and that was a disaster.
Lets see, I hit my average drive about 150 yards. I’m still getting used to a swing that my dad is teaching me so I have a pretty slow club head speed. Is there any other information that you need?

Can someone recommend some drivers for me to try out?

I have trouble hitting the ball so it gets airborne and goes the distance. Sometimes I know what I did wrong (topped the ball, didn’t look at the ball etc.) but sometime i feel like i hit a perfect shot with my 9 iron and it gets off the ground about 7 feet and goes about 30 yards plus roll.do you know what I am doing wrong? i am 12 years old and i think i swing at a moderate speed. i am taking lessons and sometimes the instructor has to see me swing a couple of times to assess the error i am making. Additional info.(if needed): i am 5’2″ and have Special Clubs that fit perfectly and feel great. I have taylormade 3 and 5 woods and a cleveland Gold Launcher Driver. when i hit a good ball (about 75% of the time) it often goes straight and then goes way out to the right. is this a cause of overswinging? or is it because i am not hitting the sweetspot. i can usually hit the driver about 215 yards. please help!!!
